  • Sex Is Awesome

Sex Is Awesomeis a campaign to help people of all sexes become more educated regarding their contraceptive choices. It is a series of three posters which use info graphics to answer the question “Which is the best birth control for this situation?” The series includes a flow chart breaking down contraceptive choice according to how you feel about having children, a graph showing cost versus effectiveness, and chart breaking down the lifetime cost of different birth control choices. I also created a set of birth control icons.

  • Quesabrosa Logo

QUESABROSA is a traditional Mexican food cart located in Portland, Oregon. In addition to a logo and identity system, I designed a magnet, business card, menu, two large banners, two menu banners, a flier, and a large logo banner. QUESABROSA needed an identity that reflected the owner's festive, lively personality but brought a level of professionalism her cart set up was missing, while still keeping true to her ideals and setting her apart from the other Mexican carts in the city.

  • Explore

Explore is a campaign and fictional lecture series design to get people more excited about exploring their everyday lives and viewing things in new and interested light. The campaign includes a booklet with instructions on exploring things like abandoned structures, a small journal for recording observations, a postcard set, a map, and a small banner design to attract attendees and serve as a reminder once the event is over to continue exploring. For this project I also designed a logo and an icon set.

  • Dwell Special Edition Insert

This is an accordion fold book about a colorful and exceptionally designed apartment in Sweden. I wanted people to be able to interact with the intricacies of the interior design. Rather than rely solely on images of the apartment, I created paint by number illustrations that to go along side each image. This way people can admire the actual apartment and learn about what makes it so awe-inspiring.

  • Calendar

I grew up on a remote island in the South Pacific. Because there was very little light pollution, the night sky was enormous and weighty. It left me with a huge impression of the unknown. Inspiration for the Lunar Calendar comes a wonderment at what is out there. The days of the month are in a circle rather than a grid in order to be more reflective of the earth and moon’s rotation, and includes the phases of the moon and major holidays.

When my little sister, who lives in Ecuador, became pregnant with the first baby in our family, there was no way I was going miss the event. I knew very little about pregnancy and birth, and since I was planning to assist my sister in giving birth in a remote village in Ecuador, I needed to learn more about it. This poster is an illustrative info graphic highlighting fascinating landmarks in fetal gestation. It was also an interesting and challenging illustrative assignment.

  • House Party

House Party is a fictional event in which I invited the current residents of my previous residence to a party to mix and mingle. I created an icon for each previous address. Each invitee received an invitational card set with notable highlights from my time at each address, an icon button to help identify which address they were from, and a poster showcasing the icon illustrations.

  • Tabletop Type Logo

Tabletop Type is a playful exploration between the beauty of type, paper craft, space, and balance. It was developed from a desire to have more physical interaction with type in three dimensional space. Based on Mrs. Eaves, the typeface uses a table top or shelf as a baseline, with descenders hanging below an edge of some kind. The package comes with a poster and several sheets of letters giving users enough letters in the package to spell out words.

  • Me!

Having worked with the public for many years, I understand that we really only have a split second to effectively communicate an idea before it is lost. This idea excites me and drives my work. Constantly working towards visual balance and effective, smart communication never tires me. I like to make things that people can get involved in: to touch, feel, interact, think, and maybe (maybe) even learn something new.

From the moment I could grasp a pencil I started drawing; therefore the work you will find in these pages is heavily illustrative. I love the challenge of communicating complex ideas through visual cues, especially in information graphics, icon sets, and logos. I am also inspired by the texture of paper, wooed by the beauty of books, and regularly swoon at the structure of type.

With training in Fine Art & Photography and work experience in Marketing & Branding, Graphic Design is the natural culmination of my experience and skills. I got into Graphic Design because it makes art more accessible to the masses, and silly as it sounds, I want to make the world a little more beautiful by designing things we use and see everyday, rather than making something to live in a gallery, or someone’s private wall.

I am excited, driven, passionate, hardworking, and a little bit of a perfectionist. In my process, I am not afraid to try things that I know might fail, to put something aside that isn’t working, and push through until I find that illusive element that makes a project click. I am heavily influenced by my international upbringing, foreign languages and cross cultural communication. All manner of visual imagery excites me, from something on paper to a leaf on the sidewalk, to a walk through neighborhoods at night. Culture and society are incredibly beautiful and complex creations. I believe the role of a graphic designer is to illustrate the experience, make it more easy to understand, and more enjoyable to be involved in.
